1. What is beautiful White color?

1. Spectral waveform of color

Spectroscopically, color as hue has its form. Apparatus for analyzing color as curving line form is called spectral photometer (Spectrophotometer).

Color is generated when color light exposed to an object is selectively absorbed and reflected. Spectroscopically speaking, typical three primary colors are curves shown in the following charts.

On the other hand, White color is expressed in a spectral curve shown in the following chart. If reflectance is closer to 100 % within wavelength area of 400nm~700nm, human eyes may feel it whiter.

Ideal White color provides 100% of reflectance.

2. Conditions of ink realizing beautiful White color

As seen from the above, beautiful white color (High Reflection White) provides high reflectance for white color. To increase this reflectance, it is necessary to minimize transmitted light and absorbed light which lessen incident light.

Incident light = Transmitted light + Absorbed light + Reflected light

Therefore, printed ink layer requires high opacity minimizing transmitted light and fewer component absorbing light.

2. Introduction of example of beautiful White ink
1. High Reflection White

In this report, we will introduce one of our White inks which provide high reflectance.

The following chart compares reflectance of spectral curve of our 13-629 High Reflection White with that of high-reflection film (not ink) used as backlight reflection film.

Here you can see that this White ink provides reflectance equivalent to high-reflection film.

Printing conditions: T-80, thinning rate: 15%
Substrate: PC
Measurement condition: Attach White printed on PC to Black under layer ink and measure reflectance.
